The mould remediation project at the Tiverton Fire Station is winding down.

In his report to Kincardine council, accepted Wednesday night (Oct. 6), Kincardine fire chief Jamie MacKinnon stated that the structural repairs, including electrical work, drywall, ceilings and painting, have been completed. Full use of the building has resumed, including the administration area, he said.

New furniture has been purchased to replace the old contaminated items, and wiring for telephones and computers continues. Detail work, such as rehanging of map boards, bulletin boards and other paperwork, will be ongoing for some time, MacKinnon said.

Overall, the station clean-up went well, although it proved to be time-consuming due to the strict rules involved in removing mould, he said.

The next phase is exterior surface drainage and reconfiguring interior drains to ensure no standing water remains on the floor, said MacKinnon.
