The 'Golden Age of Radio' had a golden program.  It was Lux presents Hollywood.  It ran from 1936 to 1952 with some early shows in 1934 and 1935.  Once the show moved to Hollywood it became the most popular program on the air, heard coast to coast on a number of networks world-wide.

Lux Radio Theater strove to feature as many of the original stars of the original stage and film productions as possible, usually paying them $5,000 an appearance. In 1936, when  Lux soap  moved the show from New York City to Hollywood, the program began to emphasize adaptations of films rather than plays

A staple of Monday nights at 9 pm was the hour long show hosted early on by Cecil B. DeMille the famous director.  He had a  magic radio voice as he intoned "Lux presents HOLLYWOOOOOOOD.

We will bring you from time to time by the magic of the Internet, Lux Radio year by year.  All you have to do is click on the blue megabyte indicators on the right of the titles and you will be propelled back in time.  There is much to learn from these wonderful productions that were used to promote movies, books and plays that made Lux Radio so popular in the English speaking world of the 30's and 40's.
