This was a strange and improbable vote.  It was evenly split exactly.

One thing we noticed was that some of the no voters, voted over and over again no.  They seem to have a passion.

We toss out duplicate votes, so it is  waste of your time.  It seems to occur on issues that stir up people.  We post the fact that we toss out duplicate votes from the same source, but people continue to do this.  We like your comments and votes, but save your effort, there is no purpose in voting 10 or more times within a few minutes.

We don't edit your comments, do a spell check on them or fiddle with your punctuation.

Here are some of the comments, but not all:

At what costs? Should we have crossing guards out at all major intersections too?

Educate our youth on the  dangers of the lake

Absolutely ! The police  should also close the beach on days that there is a risk to the public and fine  anyone found in the water those days.

Signage of  dangerous situations would be more   effective. Barricading worked during the drowning investigation so that would be an option. People have to use common sense no one can change that.

End the nanny state and be responsible  for yourself and your loved ones!

Even though it would be difficult to manage it is a very good thought.   Does Sauble Beach or Grand Bend have them?

Having Lifeguards only shifts the  responsibility from the swimmer to the  Lifeguard when the undertow is strong it means we risk the life of the Lifeguard every time someone goes in the water.

Huge responsibility to guard. which part of the beach gets guarded  what times does it get guarded how do more guards get called if numbers increase on the beach. what authority do they have for other areas such as the pier the habour etc. no too great a risk to municipality

I have heard arguments stating that lifeguards won't make a difference because the waves make the water cloudy and it would be impossible to see any potential victims. Even though the water may be cloudy at times having lifeguards there will enforce   safe swimming practices and may avoid future incidents from occurring.

I think it would be a great idea for public safety. It would also create trained jobs for young people.

I think lifeguards would be good to at least educate people of dangerous water conditions. The flag system like is used at many beaches would be good   red (danger) yellow (caution) and   green (good conditions).

In a nutshell NO. Who's going to pay for the lifeguards? I'll bet it would be the people who have enough common sense not to be in the water when its dangerous.

It would be impossible to properly   patrol the entire beach. Have a   person at the Yacht club post signs if   he deems the waves are to heavy and   too dangerous. If the signs are   posted and people go in the water   then have the OPP charge the   violators. An innocent person can   drown trying to save some   irresponsible person. Thanx Ken Texmo

Just at Station Beach I think is a good idea...or at least someone on   patrol! It all really comes down to   cost!

Lifeguards along the lake would be a false sense of security

Our beaches are too expansive and the undertow can be too deadly for even  the most experienced of swimmers. I   wouldn't want to risk even more lives   by putting that responsibility on a lifeguard.

People have to take some  responsibility for themselves. Also it could lead the Municiplaity (i.e.   us the ratepayers) open to litigation   if something happened to a person and   the guard was not at that particular   area.

People need to take some responsibility for their own actions.

Perhaps the municipality might want to consider introducing a Life Guard   Service in place in Europe.  Newfoundland dogs (& other trained   breeds) perform water rescues  routinely.

Rescuing people from undertows and rip  tides puts the lives of even the best swimmers at risk. What would the liability be to the town if the lifeguard died? A beach closure system  would be money better spent.

Shoreline too long.... key areas

Since tourism is such a major part of  Kincardine the municipality should pay to have lifeguards patrolling the   beach to make it safer. Goderich has   lifeguards. Kincardine should too. It would also provide summer jobs for young people.

the lake is too unpredictable and commonsense will save more lives.   Post that the beach is safe for   swimming or not safe. A lifeguard can   only advise that the conditions arent safe the under tow is precarious and   will suck under even the strongest   swimmer.

They should also have a red yellow green flag flying   so ppl know what the beach supervisors think the   conditions are like!!

waste of money

What about more phone booths and the Kincardine rescue boat number posted  everywhere.

Would it do any good?  If people cannot read the sign warning  of the dangerous undertow would they  pay attention?  People should learn to respect the lake it can turn so fast.

Yes life guards should be posted for July/August   Tourists are not aware of rip tides ( or young locals   !)It would provide employment for teens and if they   save just 1 life they will be worth every cent It is   time the town took some responsibility .we are lake   side community act like it !!
