The Kincardine Rotary Club has raised $12,003, in its 29th annual TV auction held Wednesday (Nov. 17) - that's $1,500 more than last year. This is the largest amount ever made at the event which is the second largest fund-raiser for the club. Rotary Bingo is the biggest fund-raiser. Organizers were very pleased with the results. About 150 businesses donated to the auction, and there was something for everyone, with items selling for as low as $6 up to gifts valued at more than $700. The money goes toward local projects: the Kincardine Community Living Christmas party, the Christmas Hamper program, elementary school literacy support (books, teaching aids, etc.), education bursaries, donations to the Kincardine hospital for medical equipment (eg. a palliative care bed), and internationally to such programs as the eradication of polio, World Clean water projects, and World Disaster Shelter Boxes. There are 25 members in the club, 21 of which helped with the auction, plus five friends of Rotary. The event takes about 10-12 weeks to arrange. The process starts in early September with letters to all businesses and then a visit to the businesses for a donation. In October, the auction items are gathered up and then grouped together for the flyer, and put into the computer program. The flyer is delivered to almost every home in and around Kincardine one week before the auction, and a storefront display is set up to showcase some of the items. Rotarian Larry Walton took photos of all the items donated and any business location that was required. All the photos were put into the computer program, designed and operated by Michael Hartwick of Hartwick Communications and Consulting, who also ran the computer during the auction. Kincardine Cable TV, owned and operated by Rogers Communications Inc., supplied one of its technicians for a smooth and flawless production. Miller Insurance provided office space and Bruce Telecom set up the auction phones. Bruce and Carol Woods provided space to display the auction items.
