Members of the Kincardine Theatre Guild, Jaki Mayer-Duggan (L), Sid Duggan, Bonnie Bryan, Terry Bryan, Sandy Blackwood, Jim Thomas, Cheryl MacDonald and Jim Peddie, present a singing telegram to the outgoing Kincardine council from deputy mayor Laura Haight

The final meeting of the outgoing Kincardine Council (2006-2010) began in fine style last night (Nov. 17), with a singing telegram to council from deputy mayor Laura Haight.

Performed by the Kincardine Theatre Guild, the song was a wrap-up of the past four-year term of council and was a terrific send-off or send-up, as it were.

Unfortunately, Haight was on vacation and unable to bask in the marvellous humour wrought by the singing telegram, written by Bonnie Bryan. It has been printed below for all to enjoy, and goes to the tune, "It's A Long, Long Way to Tipperary":

It was a long term, but now it's over
As you meet the last time
Laura asked us to give a send-off
And sing a silly song with rhyme
Now your old gang is departing
And making room for new
With some different faces at the table
Will they have a clue?

It was such fun while it lasted
Got a new gym, it's true
The addition went over-budget
Giant hogweed over-grew
The old town hall got a facelift
So Heritage got their way
But the money's quickly disappearing
So now who will pay?

The incumbents threw their names in
And the voters could choose
Some are leaving and some are staying
The results are in the news
Mr. Hewitt, he retired. Randy was acclaimed
Laura wanted all to have best wishes
'Til she runs again.

At the close of the meeting, councillor Kenneth Craig noted that the current council members can be proud of the work completed in this term. He also thanked retiring councillor Ron Hewitt for his hard work and dedication.

Councillor Guy Anderson said he has served a total of 10 years on council. "It's all been interesting. We did a good job and I wish the next council all the luck in the world."
