One of the interesting things about the Internet is its ever changing free application base.  One of the innovators has been Skype, which has many  millions of moment to moment users of any age.

Skype allows voice and text communication for free if it is a Skype to Skype conversation.  If you call a land line then there is a nominal monthly charge.

Many people use it to talk to their friends and family using the video aspect of it.  It's used all the time on TV where you see a remote image of a person being interviewed on let's say CNN or CBC TV.

An interesting part of Skype is that you can share your computer screen with others.  Today, we used it to look at a demonstration of some student created software that was running on the student's computer.  He was describing the application 'live' and you could follow what was going on easily with his cursor and voice aiding the conversation and transfer of information.

This is a great tool and has been going on for a few years now in other forms.  Skype makes it easy to do and it is not intrusive or dangerous to your computer.  You just see the other person's windows and desktop.

Currently it works on all Windows based computers, and most Macs, but not all.  You cannot share conference call screens on the Mac at present, but can on Windows machines.
