Is that my Christmas Tree? |

The family had gathered to visit their elderly parents in an assisted care facility. They had purchased and decorated a small Christmas Tree for their mini-apartment. Both were ill and children and grandchildren were returning for the holidays. As the family walked down the long hall, they were met by a tiny lady, bent with age, but still with a twinkle, if not spring in her step. The old woman was 'on duty' at her door. As they passed, she said "Is that my Christmas Tree?" The visitors replied "No, that's for the children's grandfather and grandmother! As they proceeded, they looked back to see the woman now standing in the middle of the hall, a tiny figure caught in the vanishing points of the perspective of the seemingly endless hall. They turned away from her and continued their journey. Finding the door with the grandparents number, they bunched together slipping slowly into the room with the Christmas Tree still in tow. A bent shadow cast enough darkness to contrast the dim light behind them. They turned to see the spare little woman again. She said: "Are you sure that isn't my Christmas Tree? My daughter promised to visit me today. Did she send you to deliver it? |
