Santa Claus is joined by organizers Lisa Robertson-Taylor (L) and Heather Convay (R), and a group of children at the tree-lighting in St. Andrews Park, Tiverton, Friday night

A small crowd braved the bitterly cold wind Friday night to watch the tree-lighting in St. Andrews Park, Tiverton.

Carollers from Tiverton Baptist and Presbyterian Churches led the singing and then organizers Lisa Robertson-Taylor and Heather Convay welcomed everyone.

Santa Claus took the microphone and, with a group of children, did the countdown to hit the switch and turn on the lights for the large Christmas tree in the northeast corner, as well as several trees in the southwest corner and the lights in the fountain.

The Tiverton firefighters allowed the children to check out the fire truck, and there was hot chocolate for everyone.

And, of course, all the children wanted to visit with Santa before he headed back to the North Pole.
