The Barbarians Rugby Club is all gung-ho to build a sports field beside the Tiverton Arena.

However, the club members were a little too enthusiastic as they jumped ahead of the proper process.

That was the word the Kincardine council meeting Wednesday night (Nov. 17).

Chief administrative officer John deRosenroll said concerns were expressed to staff by councillor Mike Leggett on Friday (Nov. 12),  that a project was under way in front of the Tiverton Sports Centre, on the east side of the village.

The rugby club was in the process of building a new sports field, said deRosenroll. It had already dug up a hole on the west side from which it was getting the fill to level the piece of ground south of the asphalt in front of the arena.

The work has been halted, deRosenroll said, adding that the club was allowed to complete the cut and fill so the proposed field and the hole that was dug, were both level.

Recreation director Karen Kieffer was away that week but will have a report to council at its Dec. 1 meeting.
