At the Saugeen Shores' Town Council's final meeting of 2010, the Accessibility Advisory Committee presented its final report on the Rotary Accessibility Playground fundraising efforts.

The initiative for an accessibility playground in Saugeen Shores, that also developed to include a sensory garden, began approximately three years ago.

At the Town Council meeting Monday night, two final donations brought the fundraising efforts to the final goal of $350,000.  Saugeen Shores firefighters from Stations 50 and 60 donated $5,000 and the local women's group, the Cham-bettes contributed $6,500.

The firefighters have raised fund through several efforts including dances and serving at various restaurant venues, includng Crabby Joes.

The Cham-bettes, made up of professional women throughout the community raised funds through their annual Christmas Home Tour in addition to other fundraising endeavours.

"This report winds up the initial campaign for the accessibility playground," said Jayne Jagelewski of Saugeen Shores town staff.  "The playground and gardens have proven to be extremely popular and has been used by a wide population that includes children and adults ranging from parents to grandparents."

Jagelewski went on to introduce the members of the Accessibility Advisory Committee, each of whom played a unique role in the fundraising and design efforts of the playground and gardens.
