Kincardine Legion presents $4,000 to hospital foundation

The Royal Canadian  Legion, Branch 183, Kincardine presented $4,000 to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, to put toward the bone mineral density machine at the Kincardine hospital.

The donation was made Thursday morning, by Legion representatives: president Red Larsen, co-poppy chairman; secretary Bob Grey, District C poppy chairman; and Janet Wright, co-poppy chairperson.

Accepting were foundation president Gregg McClelland, and directors Jim Bagshaw and Dianne MacArthur.

Through its poppy fund, the Legion has presented a total of $14,500 to several charities including the following:

  • Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command and L.A. Charitable Foundation - hospital, $2,000
  • Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command and L.A. Charitable Foundation - bursary, $2,000 - to support students going on to post-secondary education
  • District C Hospital Foundation - for veterans in Parkwood and Sunnybrook, $2,000
  • Ontario Command "Homeless Veterans Program," $1,000
  • Military Family Resource Centre, Meaford, $1,400
  • Home and Community Support Services of Grey-Bruce - Meals on Wheels, $1,000
  • Royal Canadian Air Cadets, 183 Typhoon Squadron, $1,100

Meanwhile, the foundation is finding even better success this year with its Christmas tree ornament campaign.

 

Foundation co-ordinator Diane Baldwin said $15,000 has already been raised, which is up from last year. "Some of the cards are so heartwarming," she said.

People can still donate to the campaign. Call the foundation at 519-396-3331, Ext. 342, or go into the foundation office at 43 Queen St., Kincardine, and donate by Visa or Mastercard.

All donations go to help the Kincardine health care professionals provide a full spectrum of specialized patient care with the most up-to-date sophisticated medical equipment.
