Numbers are still being crunched, but results so far show awareness of 211 is growing significantly.

Community Connection reports that calls to their Central East call centre increased 23% in 2010, with 37,545 calls answered this past year.

Initial tallies show the top call categories of calls shifted this past year.  The most sought after information was for government services, followed by housing and financial assistance.

Fifty per cent of callers to 211 were referred there by agencies, demonstrating how much other service providers rely on 211 to connect their clients to other services.

211 is free to call, easy to remember and available 24/7.  211 is an anonymous confidential service that makes it easier for people to find help in their own community.   TTY access is also available at 1-888-435-6086.

The Collingwood based 211 call centre has been operating since 2005 and is one of eight designated 211 service organizations expanding to serve all of Ontario by 2012.
