It's a huge leap from municipal politics to the provincial arena, but it's one that Huron-Kinloss mayor Mitch Twolan is contemplating. "I have been asked to run for the provincial Progressive Conservative (PC) nomination in the riding of Huron-Bruce," says Twolan. He notes that there is only one declared candidate for the position so far, and that's John Bizare of Clinton. "There are lots of other names out there," he says, "but nobody else has declared." Twolan says there is lots to consider before he jumps into provincial politics. "I have to discuss this with my family first of all," he says, "and I really enjoy my job here as mayor of Huron-Kinloss." He has only a couple of months to make a decision. The provincial election is slated for October of this year. The incumbent Huron-Bruce MPP is Carol Mitchell (Liberal) who is also the minister of agriculture, food and rural affairs. Twolan has served more than a dozen years on municipal council. He was a councillor prior to the amalgamation of Huron-Kinloss. He became deputy mayor in 2003 and then took over as mayor the following year after the sudden death of mayor Gerald Doelman. He has served as warden of Bruce County council and has a wealth of experience on many boards and committees. A real estate agent, he lives in Point Clark and has three children.
