It was perfect weather Saturday for the opening day of the Grand Prix de Kincardine at Family Funland, just south of Kincardine. The sun was shining and the temperature had warmed up to about minus-seven degrees Celsius, from an early-morning, frosty minus-19 degrees Celsius. About 40 racers took to the track to the delight of the crowd watching from behind the fence. Heats and finals were held for numerous classes, with more set to run today (Sunday). Saturday night ended with an endurance race with plenty of sleds on the track. The highlight of Sunday's racing, of course, will be the arrival of Rick Mercer and his crew who will be shooting a segment for the Rick Mercer Report. Racing begins at 11 a.m. This year's event is in support of autism and epilepsy awareness. If you can't be at the track, check the on-line web broadcast and other information, on the website at www.gpkracing.com Organizer Rob Noakes and his family of Inverhuron are hosting the Grand Prix de Kincardine. They are also planning a Grand Prix snowmobile race Feb. 13 in Listowel. It will be part of the COSDRA (Central Ontario Snowmobile Drag Racing Association) Snowbelt Challenge. Details are available on the website. Registration begins Jan. 12.
