It was a busy night in the Goderich council chamber Monday night (Jan. 24).

Presentations given to council included the Bio-Solids Master Plan and development charges study results, given by Steve Burns of B.M. Ross and Associates.

Burns said the master plan for bio-solids indicates that the "sludge" will continue to go to the Mid-Huron Landfill site, and options for better disposal will be explored.

One option, considered to be the best solution to dealing with shrinking landfill space, is a system called Lystek TM. Burns said although the initial cost of the system is expensive, $4-million, there would be a significant savings in operating costs.

Council will receive the report and proceed with the next step.

Burns also told council that development charges for Goderich will be reduced by about 60 per cent. He said it's because the population of the town, over the past five years, has increased by just five people, but there was an increase in the number of homes.

He said that indicates a smaller number of people are living under one roof.

Animal control and by-law enforcement officer Robert Trick brought his annual report to council. He said the new off-leash dog park is very successful, with many residents from Goderich, Ripley and Exeter taking their pets there to run around.

One thing he noticed last year was an increase in the number of dog attacks.

Barry Page of Heritage Goderich read that organization's annual report, citing the highlight of the year was the presentation of the Lieutenant Governor's Award to the heritage group.

A delegation also came from the Lake Huron Learning Collaborative, expressing interest in using parts of Victoria School, if council decides to purchase the property. Council toured the building Tuesday afternoon.
