The 55th Anniversary of the Wiarton Willie Festival in Wiarton, Bruce County got started with a bang in the early morning hours of February 2nd, Groundhog Day, despite the weather.
Wiarton Willie waits patiently to deliver his message As expected due to near blizzard conditions, Willie did not see his shadow and, according to folklore, that means that spring is just 'around the corner'. For a history of Groundhog Day Click Here Unfortunately, for the rest of the day's celebrations however, the weather did have an impact. For one of the very few times in its long history, opening day events had to be cancelled as high winds and blowing snow resulted in zero visibility.
