Highway 21 between Port Elgin and Southampton

There was no doubt today that the news was all about the weather and the recent winter storm that hit many of the states south of the Canadian-U.S. border before moving north and east into Ontario.

With blowing snow and high windchills dropping the temperatures dramatically, highways were closed along with all schools throughout Huron, Wellington, Grey and Bruce counties.

'Sparks Corner' between Southampton & Port Elgin  always a white-out location

Residents have always long advocated for snow-fencing, or a living snow fence of trees, along this stretch of highway.
