Inspiration for Kincardine's World Peace Day dies at age 82 |

![]() Albrecht Ebner died suddenly at Trillium Court, Kincardine, on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at the age of 82. The inspiration behind Kincardine's World Peace Day, he helped launch the event which was first held Sept. 12, 2005, in response to the bombing of the World Trade Centre in the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. Guest speaker at the first World Peace Day was Eva Olsson, an Auschwitz survivor, who returned to speak at the event last year. Ebner spent three years writing a book about the aftermath of the 9/11 bombing, "September 12, Reflections on Tolerance and Forgiveness," which was launched in September, 2004. He is survived by his children, Linda Bogaert, of Milton; Barbara Day, of Burlington; Peter Ebner, of Cochrane, Alberta; and Juergen Ebner, of Wallaceburg. Also survived by nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and by his sister, Luzie Rudolph, of Germany. Albrecht emigrated from Germany in the 1950s with his family. He became a high school teacher in Wallaceburg, and retired early from that profession. An avid sailor, he sailed his ship, "Calluna," through the Great Lakes system. |
