First, Dalton McGuinty hands former Liberal premier David Peterson a cheque for $2.5-million to promote Toronto as the site of the 2015 Pan Am Games. Now he is throwing $22.5-million of our hard-earned tax dollars at renovations/rebuild of the Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, in readiness for those same 2015 games.

Meanwhile, hospitals are running deficits, services are being cut, mental health facilities are being closed and long-term care patients are being referred to as "Bed Blockers."

It is high time governments at all levels stopped using taxpayers' money for funding these events. It is high time they got their priorities straightened out!

We need a change in government!

Also, we have just endured a recession and the government tells us there is a deficit, there is a need for a public sector wage freeze, there is no money for health care. Hospital administrators are threatened that charges will be laid if they go into deficit, while hospital funding is 50-per-cent less than the annual rate of inflation.

But lo and behold, government can always find money for funding sports facilities and events, etc. It is high time our politicians started taking care of the needs of the people they were elected to serve.
