Former Kincardine councillor Ron Hewitt has received the inaugural Lifetime Local Government Service Award. Presented Wednesday night (Jan. 26) at the Kincardine council meeting, by mayor Larry Kraemer, the award recognizes Hewitt's commitment to public service on the councils of the former Township of Kincardine and the current Municipality of Kincardine. He served a total of 27 years between 1980 and 2010. The plaque states that Hewitt, as the inaugural recipient of this award, has set the standard for citizen involvement on local government. He was also recognized provincially for his long-time service as a municipal councillor. Also receiving plaques for their service on council were former deputy mayor Laura Haight, and former councillors Guy Anderson, Gordon Campbell and Marsha Leggett. Campbell and Leggett were absent for the presentation.
