Kincardine had a tremendous construction year in 2010. The final figures show a total of 269 building permits issued, for a construction value of $27.28-million. That's up sharply from 2009 when the municipality had 253 permits issued, with a construction value of $19.12-million. Chief building official Michele Barr had her final report prepared for the Feb. 2 meeting which was cancelled due to the snowstorm. The report will be part of the Feb. 9 council meeting, listed under the consent agenda. In that report, Barr outlines the successful year for building in Kincardine, noting there were permits issued for 51 houses. By comparison, Saugeen Shores had double that many new homes, at 102 permits, and a total construction value for 2010 of $48.92-million. Huron-Kinloss had 61 permits for new homes, and a total construction value for last year of $27.18-million. Brockton had 15 new homes, and a total construction value in 2010 of $35.18-million.
