There is no doubt that the seasonal operations of the two Saugeen Shores' Town tourist camps and the Port Elgin harbour are valuable sources of revenue for the town.

In 2010, Southampton Tourist Camp brought in approximately $300,000 with expenditures of $133,470.  The numbers for 2011 are expected to be fairly close with revenues projected at almost $315,000 with expenditures at approximately $130,000 despite the fact the most utility costs are going up..

Port Elgin Tourist Camp, larger than Southampton, brought in revenues of more that $620,000 in 2010 and, this year, is anticipated to create revenues of more than $640,000 with expenditures at $256,000.

The 2011 numbers however, are based on an increase in seasonal rates from $1,922 per site to $1,999.

Harbour rates will also, in all probability, be going up from $46.00 per ft. to $48.00 per ft. due to the cost of upgrades to the electrical system.

In 2010, the total harbour revenues amount to more than $480,000 with expenditures coming in at almost $399,000.  Based on the anticipated increase in footage fees, revenues are projected to be $473,600 with expenditures at $420,108.
