Annual Family Heritage Day continues to expand

The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre (BCM&CC) has received assitance for its annual Family Heritage Day celebration.

Sponsorship of the 2011 Family Heritage Day event is through the Saugeen Shores Community Fund, under the umbrella of the Community Foundation Grey Bruce. 

The event is a free admission event donations of non-perishable food items are being asked for, which will be donated to the local food bank.  To assist with collecting the food-stuff, both the Southampton and Port Elgin branches of CIBC Banking will be set up as depots from Feb. 14 – 18 where people can drop off items the week prior to Family Heritage Day.

Thorncrest Outfitters of Southampton is one of the many vendors that will be on-site at the Museum on Heritage Day to give visitors the chance to try a 'hands-on' winter activity, such as snowshoeing. The day beings at 10:00 a.m. and runs through to 4:00 p.m., with a food booth open from 11am to 3pm. 

The ever-popular family entertainer, Dickie Bird, whose concerts have sold out in the past, will perform at 11:30 a.m. and again at 2:30 p.m.  

Family Heritage Day is the opportunity for families to enjoy old-fashioned winter activities such as:

  • spinning and weaving

  • snowshoeing demos,

  • food booth [11am to 3pm] with chili, sandwiches and hot drinks,

  • tin can punching & rope making

  • Genealogy and Historical societies

  • knitting & corking, wood turning, wood carving

  •  Grey Bruce Trappers

  • heritage seeds

The day will also present the opportunity to tour the Museum and take in the newest exhibit in the OPG Feature Gallery – Extreme Nature – the extremes of Bruce County nature happenings.

The Museum is also offering 10% off family memberships all day.
