I am a new resident to Port Elgin and am very concerned that most of the sidewalks in town are not cleared during the winter.  Being the mother of 2 children who attend school here and walk to school most days, I am quite shocked how kids (and pedestrians) here have to share the slippery, snow covered roads with motor vehicles.

I have actually started driving them to school for safety reasons as I have seen (several times in the mornings) that traffic slows to one lane as cars in one direction must stop to let the other go by, as there are children on the road !  In this day and age, it is totally unacceptable that our children are walking on the road to school and I really feel that the municipality needs to review their budget and allow for this potentially life saving service be mandatory within the municipality. This is simply a tragedy waiting to happen.

I strongly encourage residents/parents to also put their concerns in writing to the municipality as soon as possible.  Please voice your concerns to Council so this very important issue can be reviewed.

thank you for your time,

Nathalie Ferguson
