Garbage Truth

The truth is finally out!   When the bag tag money grabbing fee was implemented a few years ago, we were told the reason for it was to get us to reduce the amount of garbage we put at the curb.

A few months later  the report came out saying the scheme was working.  The amount of garbage picked up at the curb was reduced by 25%.   It wasn’t very difficult to see why the fee was imposed.  The town leaders were proud of the garbage reduction.

If a fee of $1.50 reduced the garbage by 25%, then raising the amount to $6.00 per bag would eliminate the need to have garbage pick-up completely.   Of course that was nothing but sarcasm.

In the beginning, we were told the fee was only to convince us to recycle, reuse, and reduce.   Now we find out the fee has been a great source of income all along.

We can’t win!!  If we recycle to reduce the amount of garbage taken to the curb, we are charged even more because there’s not enough income from the tags for the garbage taken to the curb.     Maybe we should reduce the number of council members.   That would be a significant savings.
