It's extraordinary how much of a stir the recent Bag Tag increase has caused in senior ranks. Two dollars is about the point where people start paying attention. The two dollars is almost symbolic for seniors. Around coffee after reading the Saugeen Times Council articles and the letters, they have a number of ways to cope with the increase. One popular suggestion is to just put out their bags every other week. Now many of them don't come near the weight limit, so don't expect their bags to cause a rush of Town Employees to the Shouldice Hernia Clinic. They may compost a bit more, but many of them do that anyway. They will buy some bigger bags and stuff them a bit more. The result will be about the same at the Town dump, but it could be that the 'revenue stream' will not increase by as much as anticipated. As Randy Boyd's letter says, we have done a good job, but maybe too good. We never thought of garbage as a revenue stream except when watching the popular Mafia series 'The Sopranos'. We hope that bag tags won't be going up and up like the fees at the Trailer Parks. That's an annual right of Spring. Bag Tagged in Southampton Editor's Note. See other references:
