The roadway in front of the Bruce Power Visitors' Centre (Bruce County Road 20) was closed Friday morning due to flooding.

Warm temperatures over the past couple of days have melted the huge snowbanks on both sides of the road, causing rivers of water to rush down into the ditches.

Bruce County Highways was on the scene by 7 a.m. because water was running up onto the roadway and creating secondary ditches on the shoulders of the road.

The South Bruce OPP closed the section of road from the entrance to the Bruce Power plant (Bruce County Road 33), east to the B-line.

The highways department brought in seven loads of fill to shore up the shoulders of the road, cleared back the snowbanks, cleaned up the roadway and it was open by lunch time.

The section of County Road 20 just west of the B-line was completely covered in water early in the morning, and melted snow continued to wash across it while the highways crew worked to divert the water.

Meanwhile, warmer weather caused water to run off the fields and into the ditches where it was running fairly high and fast.

Cold weather was expected to blow back in on the weekend.
