About 600 Westario Power customers were without power yesterday (Feb. 15) while a crew was trying to restore a feeder line at one of the hydro substations.

Wayne Connor, line supervisor, said the substation was taken out of service for maintenance and the crew was trying to do a cold load pick-up when the hydro went out around 9 a.m.

It affected customers along Durham Street and the subdivisions off that street, said Connor, including the Davidson Centre, Kincardine District Secondary School, several businesses to the north, and the traffic lights at the corner of Durham Street and Highway 21.

"We're having a problem with one feeder," said Connor. "We can't pick it up for some reason."

Meanwhile, the crew had a set of switches open at the corner of Durham Street and Highway 21 where the pick-up was being completed. From there, the hydro would be brought back on in stages, hopefully by the afternoon, said Connor.

The substation, located on the southwest corner of Russell Street and Highway 21, has four feeder  lines that serve the former Town of Kincardine (Ward 1).
