Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound federal Liberals have a new executive to back their candidate in a possible spring election and, for the first time in a generation, the Federal Liberal Riding Association boasts an active youth committee and several association members under 30.

Local candidate, Kimberley Love, told the group's annual meeting in Owen Sound this week that she is proud of the calibre of men and women from across the riding who will serve as officers of a rejuvenated Liberal party here.

She also pointed out that three of these young people will hold key positions in her campaign executive group. In her words “... we are passing the torch to a fresh generation of Liberals.”

Monna Whicher, the daughter of Ross Whicher, who served as the Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP during the Trudeau years, takes over as association President.

Whicher said she is proud to lead this enthusiastic and talented group from each corner of the riding. She predicted candidate Love, when elected, will speak clearly on behalf of our riding. Whicher praised Love and stated she will bring intelligence, integrity, compassion and trust to Ottawa. Trust, she pointed out, is something that is too often missing in Ottawa these days.

Candidate Kimberley Love, nominated 18-months ago, has family roots in south Grey County She is a mother of four and a communications consultant. Love and her husband Glen Drummond live with their two youngest children on their 200-acre family farm near Hopeville.

Love told the Liberal group that the Conservatives are focusing on new jets and jails when they should be helping families and working on health care and the economy especially in rural areas. The Conservative government’s budget, expected next month, could trigger a federal election on the issue of corporate tax cuts, which the Liberals oppose.

With 18-months of campaign preparation behind her, Love says she and her team are ready to roll onto the campaign trail.

Too often, Love said, people call this a “Conservative” riding. But she listed the names, Eddie Sargent, Ross Whicher, Bob McKessock, Murray Calder, Ron Lipsett and Ovid Jackson. “These individuals or their families have had roles in my campaign so far,” she said. “This is a riding with a very rich Liberal history.”
