About 14 women, members of the St. Andrew's United Church Women in Ripley and their neighbours and friends, worked together for a couple of weeks, making and tying quilts to send away for people in need. Organizer Fran Farrell said the ladies made 28 quilts, including several double-size, many twin-size, and some smaller ones. "We had about 12 done last week, and completed the rest this week," she said. Farrell's good friend, Sandra MacDonald, sewed the edging around the quilts to finish them. The quilts will be sent to Bruce Presbyterial where the supply co-ordinator, Bev May of Harriston, will bundle them up and take them to the Canadian Food for Children centre in Waterloo. From there, the quilts will go to the organizations head office in Mississauga and be shipped by container to wherever they are most needed. Last year, the Ripley ladies' group made 33 quilts which were all sent to Haiti. The Canadian Food for Children is a group of volunteers who care deeply about the suffering poor of the world. The non-denominational, registered charity raises funds, purchases food and gathers goods for the hungry in developing countries.
