Do the Math ...

I live below the welfare line because I could not stand to expose my children nor myself to the degradation and harassment of Ontario Works.

I am raising my four children on $2500/month, that is $500/person ... this is Baby Bonus and child support.  From that I pay:  $700 inclusive for a moldy 700 square foot cottage; approx. $800 in bills (phone, insurance, credit cards, gas etc);$300 for food and clothes a month, that is $60/month per person allocated! How far does that go?

I know I am a lucky one because I have heat and hydro, if this place was not inclusive I would have even less. On Ontario Works I would get maybe $400 more plus dental, and prescriptions but I got fed up with being treated like a criminal.

An example is, I was told I needed to submit my childrens’ report cards as proof they were attending school ... I said that was against their privacy to have their report cards flaunted about the Ontario Works office. The worker said that I could blank out their marks ... what crap! There is more I could tell but that would be a book!

Living in Saugeen Shores means, even with the cost of gas, it is still cheaper to shop in Owen Sound!
