Letter  Open letter to the workers of Wisconsin Read More

Dear Sid Ryan,

Reading your comments in, “An Open Letter to the Workers of Wisconsin,” was a surprise gratefully received. My sister who lives in Port Elgin forwarded it to us from the Saugeen Times, and we have sent it on to people in our area who will be pleased to know of your support. We have been participating with the tens of thousands of others in the state at the Capitol in Madison and in our own town. People are determined to make the governor and his Republican Party members respond to our call for fairness in the budget and for collective bargaining rights to be continued. One of the chants heard in the demonstrations is, “This is what democracy looks like.” Workers in unions have conceded to the governor’s request to pay more for health insurance and pension contributions, but we will not give up our rights to bargain for working conditions. Thank you for your support and stay strong in your efforts for fair working conditions and compensation.

Sincerely,

Karen (O’Rourke) Rundell, Retired Teacher
