More than $130,000 has been donated to local schools, thanks to the FundScrip fund-raising program. Spearheaded by FundScrip administrators Gail Walden and Carol Blake, the Canadian gift card program offers a common-sense way to transform everyday spending into contributions for local schools. For example, a $50 Canadian Tire gift card purchased through the FundScrip.com site, generates a $2 rebate, while a $100 Sobeys/Zehrs card generates a $3 rebate, which totals a $5 donation to local schools. Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School (KTTPS) was the first school in Ontario to use the FundScrip program in 2004, generating, to date, rebates totaling $39,308.97. The following year, organizers invited Elgin Market and Huron Heights -$33,507.68, Kincardine District Secondary School- $35,541.99, and Ripley-Huron Community School -$24,110.64. Thanks to the FundScrip program, supporters have generated $132,469.28 to support campaigns in these schools. “We see the potential to invite our community to be involved in making this a sustainable fund-raiser by having supporters pay for their everyday purchases, such as groceries, gas, gifts and household items, with gift cards bought from FundScrip,” says Blake. “That way, our schools receive a contribution of three per cent to 10 per cent on all purchases.” The money goes toward Grade 8 class trips, music programs, environmental projects, Home and School Associations, outdoor education, sports, robotics, transportation, trips, and School Community Councils. The
FundScrip program is an innovative and exciting initiative
developed by FundStream, Inc., a Canadian pioneer in the field of
cause-related E-commerce, says Blake. Many merchants are supportive, but none as helpful as John Satosek at Kincardine Canadian Tire who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to assist with FundScrip, allowing the program to bring in a good amount for the local schools. The KDSS sports department has also launched another new campaign for the second semester to subsidize school sports. Every Tuesday, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., students are selling lunch gift cards from local retailers that include: My Wraps, $5-9%; New Orleans Pizza, $5-4%; Sobeys, $5-4%; Subway, $10-9%; Tim Hortons, $10-9%; and McDonald's, $5-9%. |

The February campaign raised $85.50 in rebates for sports at KDSS. Please register at www.fundscrip.com and support our local schools.
