Members of Community Living of Kincardine and District were trying to sweeten up the Kincardine council meeting Wednesday night (March 2), offering council members, the public and the media a variety of desserts they had made in their baking group.

This was the first time attending a council meeting for Community Living member Randy Smith and he thanked the municipality for supporting the Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit (SMART) disability van which he used to travel to the meeting.

"It's nice to meet you in person," he said to mayor Larry Kraemer. "I use the SMART van. I used it to come out here to your meeting. Thanks to your support, I am able to go to Special Olympics activities and I get to go out to dances."

"He also uses it to come to Community Living," said Smith's friend Adam Dunlop, "and he joins us for activities. Thank you, council, for supplying the van."

On behalf of council and the municipality, Kraemer accepted their appreciation, and thanked Community Living for the goodies. "In light of getting the SMART van, it was a very politically-astute move," he said.
