For the first time, Saugeen Shores and its Mayor, Mike Smith, have been part of the Mayors for Meals on Wheels project.
As part of the project, mayors throughout North America, take a day to actually participate in meal deliveries to residents through Meals on Wheels, to see first hand what the program accomplishes in their communities. Saugeen Shores Mayor, Mike Smith, accompanied long-time volunteer, Meryl Cramp, as she delivered hot meals to clients in Port Elgin. The meals are prepared and packaged in thermal containers at the Southampton Memorial Hospital and then delivered by volunteers. Cramp has volunteered for approximately 10 years in Saugeen Shores and, before that, for some 15 years in Alberta. In addition, the Mayor's father was also a volunteer with the program for many years.
