An evening event to launch the new Saugeen Shores Cycling Club is being held at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011. All cycling enthusiasts and those new to cycling are invited to attend!

The evening event will include a presentation about the new club, an overview of planned weekly recreational road and trail rides, membership information, and a meet and greet of club members and officials. Refreshments will be available, and in keeping with the theme of the club, the evening is meant to be fun and social.

The new Saugeen Shores Cycling Club evolved after a summer of Thursday night group rides, hosted by Fitness Corner South last summer. The weekly ride grew in numbers, and participants realized there was a passion for cycling in the area. A group of 38 cyclists met to talk about cycling and decided to form a club. A smaller executive, led by Tim Murawsky, President of the new Club, is working behind the scenes to incorporate, secure insurance, affiliate with the Ontario Cycling Association, and plan this upcoming season’s cycling schedule. The Club is planning to be recreational, fostering the development of new and existing cyclists, through organized group rides and social events.

“As a passionate and dedicated cyclist, I am thrilled to see this club coming together” said Linda Oehm, Club Secretary and one of the founding members who actively led group rides last summer. “Cycling is an activity just about anyone can embrace, and it will be wonderful to have a club that encourages  participation!"

The new Saugeen Shores Cycling Club is planning to offer group rides designed to meet the needs of new, emerging and experienced riders. A trail option for shorter distance cyclists, moderate distance road rides for emerging cyclists and faster rides for experienced cyclists are being planned. Annual memberships are $50 for adults and $40 for anyone under the age of 18 (must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at registration). Anyone interested in learning more about cycling and the new Saugeen Shores Cycling Club is encouraged to attend the March 31st evening event.
