On April 16, the Air Cadet League of Canada will be celebrating the 70th
Anniversary of its founding in 1941.
Air Cadet Ensign As one of the events being scheduled to recognize this milestone, the Ontario Provincial Committee is planning to hold a province-wide Air Cadet and 340 Port Elgin Air Cadet Squadron will be participating in the event with a walk-a-thon. This walk-a-thon event will provide an opportunity to not only commemorate the Air Cadet League’s 70th anniversary, but also to promote the physical fitness for our cadets and raise public awareness of the Air Cadet movement within our community. In addition, the walk will be a fundraiser to support our squadrons as well as Canadian Forces personnel serving overseas. It is intended that half of the monies raised through walk-a thon pledges and contributions at unit level will be donated to the Canadian Forces’ “Project Santa Claus” fund. The fund will provide Christmas packages for Canadian troops posted outside of Canada. The remaining 50% of revenues will go into the Squadron Fund to support local cadet activities. The walk focuses on supporting our Canadian soldiers who are a long way from home. The event will start on the morning of April 16 at Coulters Parkette on Goderich Street in Port Elgin and will work its way through a Port Elgin route. Cadets will be approaching people to donate or for more information, contact the Sponsoring Committee Chair, Glenda Walpole-Szabo (519-832-5197). Charitable receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more. Your support will be greatly appreciated. |
