Grant Robertson and the Huron-Bruce New Democrats are ready to take on prime minister Stephen Harper's Conservatives directly. “Ottawa is broken and this election is about fixing it,” said Robertson in response to the government being found in contempt of Parliament and losing the confidence of the House. “With repeated scandals, a government trying to hide the costs of its agenda from Canadians, misplaced priorities and now with an unprecedented finding of contempt, it is clear Harper has lost the credibility Canadians expect in a leader.” The federal candidate for the New Democratic Party (NDP) in Huron-Bruce, Robertson has served as the elected Ontario head of the National Farmers Union (NFU), one of Ontario’s three general farm organizations, and is a widely-recognized national and award winning voice on rural and agricultural issues. He is also a library supervisor with the Bruce County Public Library, managing the Lucknow and Ripley branches. He and his wife, Sarah Slater, and their three children own and operate their family farm, Highlands of Paisley. “What happens in
Ottawa should be about putting your family and the needs of Canadians
first," said Robertson. "It should be about helping out your family budget. But
under Harper, Ottawa has been about In his past NFU role, Robertson has a long track record of working with members of all of Canada’s major political parties. As the MP for Huron-Bruce, Robertson pledges to work with others in Ottawa to take practical steps to make your life more affordable. To tackle the urgent issues facing our front-line health care. To take on the issues facing farmers directly. To work to secure pensions for current workers and deal with the growing problem of seniors living in poverty. And to play a role in cleaning up Ottawa so that Canadians get the breaks - not insiders and political cronies. “My record is clear," said Robertson. "I have played a role in public life because I believe politics need to change and I understand the issues facing Huron-Bruce. I will be the kind of MP who stands up for Huron-Bruce and takes our issues to Ottawa - not Ottawa’s man.”

He was shocked to learn
that our current Harper MP
voted against a bill that would have put workers and retirees
first. Instead, our Harper MP stood against working people and seniors,
and
voted to protect the interests of bankers and big money creditors and
CEOs wanting their big bonuses."It was a shameful vote
and one he will need to explain to those seniors who have had their
pensions cancelled - even though they paid into them for decades." Robertson and the NDP will be running their largest campaign in riding history. He is calling on voters who care about ethics in Ottawa, about making sure middle-class families can get ahead, who want to see Canadian seniors not living in poverty, who want farmers to have the tools they need to be successful and who understand the importance of natural heritage. He is calling on them to get behind the New Democrat campaign to take on a broken Ottawa. “I’ll be talking about a lot of issues during this campaign," said Robertson. "One issue I will be focusing a lot of attention on, is the needs of Huron-Bruce’s business communities. For almost two decades, Liberal and Conservative governments have been giving the largest and most profitable banks and corporations massive tax breaks. Those corporations have turned those breaks into CEO perks and salaries, taken the money and moved the jobs out of Canada! "We know. We have experienced that right here in Huron-Bruce. I will work hard to make job creators, like small business, get the help they need through programs that target their needs specifically. And I will work to make sure government investments help those who are creating jobs here in Canada." Scrolling stops when you move your mouse inside the scroll area.
