Librarian Tracey Knapp stands alongside featured "Art Wall" artist Susan Seitz's works

The Walkerton Library Juried Art Show is back in town to display some of the finest talent in the area.

The show, which runs from April 27th until May 14th, 2011 and has run for the past 25 years will feature  artworks from 31 students and 57 adults from the Municipalities of Brockton, South Bruce, West Grey, Hanover and Arran-Elderslie.

“I think it’s a wonderful way for the community to show off its local artist,” says Tracey Knapp, Librarian at the Walkerton Library and also part of the Art Committee, which includes Debbie Schenk, Paul Drystal, Jenny Iserman and Susan Rankin.

Entry requirements for the Juried Art Show took place on April 8th and April 9th, with the artist allowed to enter a maximum of three entries each, completed within the last two years and never having been featured in the art show in the past. A $5.00 entry fee was also required. Last year, approximately 300 people arrived to view the art.

Prizes and awards will be given out in six different categories, including Painting - oil or acrylic, Painting – watercolor, Drawing – 3 dimensional, Photography – traditional, Photography – manipulated and Mixed Mediums.

The Municipality of Brockton supports the financial aspects such as prizes and expenses, with 1st prize of $100, 2nd prize of $75 and 3rd prize of $50. The winners of each category will be announced at a special awards ceremony being held on April 26th, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the Walkerton Library Gallery, with the request of those attending to bring a non-perishable food item.

A special youth category for those artists 18 and under will also be given out, sponsored by A.J.’s Art Supplies in Walkerton. There will also be a Popular Vote Award sponsored by Wilfred McIntee & Company Real Estate, which allows visitors to the art show to vote on their favorite art work and the $50 prize going to the winning artist. “We hope that everybody will come out and look at the wonderful work and support our local artists,” said Knapp.

Also at the Walkerton Library is the “Art Wall” which features the works of local artists year round. Currently being displayed are the works of Susan Seitz.

Times for the Juried Art Show are as follows: Saturday, 10:00am – 2:00pm, Sunday, 1:00pm – 3:00pm, Wednesday & Friday 1:00pm – 5:00pm and Tuesday – Thursday, 1:00pm – 8:00pm.
