If the Members of both credit unions vote in favourDesjardins Credit Union will join with Meridian and their branches will become Meridian.  Meridian is already the largest credit union in Ontario with 220,000 Members, eight commercial banking centres,  and 44 branches, with over $6 billion in assets.

The joined credit unions would increase to 263,000 members and $8 billion in assets.  With the higher industry profile and additional resources after joining together, Meridian will have stronger economies of scale and be in an even better position to introduce new products and improve services. True to their care of people, no employees will lose their jobs.

Erin Zorzi, Port Elgin Meridian Branch Manager

“We are very excited about the potential of Desjardins Credit Union joining Meridian Credit Union”, says Erin Zorzi, retiring manager of Meridian’s Port Elgin branch. “Desjardins Credit Union approached Meridian last fall and after an exhaustive review of the Dejardins Credit Union operation, both boards of directors voted unanimously in favour of the amalgamation. Going forward the company would have branches in many more locations, such as Pembroke, Ottawa, London and Windsor."

If approved, Desjardins Credit Union will join with Meridian on June 1, 2011.  The combined credit union will continue under the name Meridian.
