It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Jack in his 74th year at Owen Sound Hospital, after a brief illness. Loving husband of Lois Mainland for 51 years; Father of Laurie & Jack Planta of Mount Forest, Doug Mainland of Southampton, and Brian & Rhonda Mainland of Wellesley. Greatly missed by grandchildren, Michael & Ross Quigley, Kyle Mainland, and Roslyn & Deanna Mainland. Papa Jack was welcomed to Heaven by his granddaughter, Lauren Mainland. He is survived by siblings Marjory & Hugh Kidney, Audrey Dingwall (Jim deceased), and Keith & Denice Mainland. Jack was born in Arthur, and moved to Kitchener where he met his wife Lois. Jack was a carpenter and worked for Kidney & Mainland Construction, Dunker's, and Freure Homes before starting Jay-Lou Construction - a home renovation business that he operated for 30 years. Thirteen years ago, Jack moved to his favourite place on earth, Southampton. He loved building cottages, and continued to do renovations in the area until recently. |
He was a member of Sauble Christian Fellowship Church where he often volunteered cutting grass, greeting at the front door and sometimes even helping in the kitchen. The sight of Jack walking his beloved dog, Buttons will be missed by his many neighbours. He had a great sense of humour and loved to joke and tease. Under his sometimes gruff appearance and large stature was a gentle caring man that would do anything for anyone unquestionably. Profits at Tim Horton's will fall. Cremation has taken place according to his wishes and a celebration of Jack's life will be held April 30, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Sauble Christian Fellowship church. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Mission of Hope orphanage in Haiti will be accepted at the Church. Scrolling stops when you move your mouse inside the scroll area.
