St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation has joined the Health Care Heroes Radiothon this year. The event will now fund-raise for 16 hospitals in Bruce, Grey, Perth, Huron and Wellington counties

The CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon will be fund-raising for 16 hospital foundations as the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation joins the event, slated for Oct. 15, this year.

Last year, 15 hospital foundations in Bruce, Grey, Perth, Huron and Wellington counties joined forces to raise just over $812,000 for projects supporting small town hospitals in the region.

More than $6.2-million has been raised for local hospitals through the radiothon over the past nine years.

Heather Glenister (L) of the radiothon organizing committee, and Scott Pettigrew (R) of CKNX, welcome Doug Holliday of St. Mary's Memorial Hospital Foundation to the annual fund-raiser

"The radiothon has become a great way to keep the public award of the needs of our local hospitals," says Heather Glenister, chairperson of the radiothon organizing committee

Doug Holliday of St. Marys, who sits on the organizing committee, says the St. Marys hospital foundation has already started making plans to involve the community in the radiothon and indicates it will be a big part of the foundation's fund-raising strategy in 2011.

The other hospitals supported by the radiothon include Kincardine, Southampton, Walkerton, Seaforth, Clinton, Exeter, Goderich, Listowel, Wingham, Hanover, Chesley, Durham, Mount Forest, Palmerston and Markdale.
