A good crowd turned out for the Highland Fling, a fund-raiser for the Kincardine Scottish Festival and the Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce, Saturday night at Ainsdale Golf Course. It was a great night of music and prize winning, but the greatest prize of all was the announcement that the Kincardine Scottish Festival has received a $13,700 Heritage Canada grant for its annual festival and highland games to be held July 1-3 in Kincardine. Sandy Donald, second vice-president of the festival, welcomed everyone and sang "O Canada." Festival chairman David McFarlane thanked everyone for attending and noted that volunteers are needed for the event. He said four Grade 1 bands are competing this year, including the City of Chicago Pipes and Drums which enjoyed itself so much last year it is returning. He commended the chamber of commerce for taking over the Fish Kincardine Derby so this tourist attraction would continue this year. However, once he dug a little deeper into his Scottish roots, he discovered he could proudly wear the family tartan, so he was sporting a "Crawford" tie. He said small-town festivals do more for a community than any kind of advertising. Taking home the Early Bird prize of a barbecue from Tim-Br Mart and a gift certificate from Sobeys, was Bev Spence of Kincardine. The following people also won prizes:
