Juno-award-winning singer Charlotte Diamond made time in her busy touring schedule, to stop in Kincardine Wednesday morning and perform for a crowd of French Immersion students from Elgin Market Public School and St. Anthony's School.

Held at Kincardine Pentecostal Church, the concert was exciting for the students and for Diamond, herself, who enjoys singing in English, French and Spanish.

"It's especially a thrill for me because these children really know my music," says Diamond.

A former high school teacher, she says that songs are good teaching tools because they captivate students and will stick with them for a lifetime.

The Richmond, B.C., resident won a Canadian Juno Award for her album, "10 Carrot Diamond." She has also won awards for several other releases, including "Charlotte Diamond's World," "Soy Una Pizza" (in Spanish), "Nous Sommes Tous Comme Les Fleurs" (in French), and "Diamonds and Dragons."

She visited Kincardine in the 1990s with her son, Matthew. "We toured 14 libraries and had a great time," she recalls. "I'm Scottish and I love this area."

Her musical tour this year included three shows in London. But then she received a call from Cheryl Diffin of the Kincardine Canadian Parents for French, asking if Diamond would include Kincardine on her travels.

And, she did. And there she was, putting her heart into the words and actions of her songs, and encouraging the students to sing along and do the actions. Some even took part in the concert with her.

"The joy of singing leads to a love of language," she says, with a smile, as she signed autographs and met with the children after the show.
