BROACH’DD’s new show, "Something Old, Something New," opens next month at Bean’s Bistro in downtown Kincardine, and promises to live up to its title.

The show not only highlights some of the group’s favourite performances from the past, but also offers many new musical numbers from the four-man/four--woman vocal ensemble. Be prepared to hear everything from jazz to rock ‘n’ roll, from parodies to show tunes, from this musically-eclectic and multi-talented group.

Originating in 2007, a spin-off from the Kincardine Theatre Guild’s anniversary retrospective, "Fashion Fever," BROACH’DD was created by Cheryl MacDonald as a vehicle by which young singers and musicians could work with, and learn from, older, more-seasoned performers.

"This new show not only features old and new music, but the group itself is made up of four adults and four teenagers … the old and the new," says MacDonald.

The current members of BROACH’DD are Liz Coates, Dustin Arenja, Brandon Finney, Amber Finney, Ron Boucher, Esther Marshall, Bryan MacDonald, and Cheryl MacDonald. The group’s name, although sounding Gaelic, is actually an acronym created from the first initials of the names of its original eight members. Because changing the name every time the group members changed would be confusing – and unpronounceable – the group has kept its original name.

BROACH’DD is, once again, donating the proceeds of the show to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kincardine and District, a mentoring program where adults act as role models for children – similar to BROACH’DD, itself.

"This is a perfect partnership," says MacDonald, "and we are always thrilled at the enthusiastic support we get from Big Brothers and Big Sisters."

"Something Old, Something New" opens May 5 at 8 p.m., at Bean's Bistro. There are five additional performances - May 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 at 8 p.m.

Advance tickets are $15 each, and can be purchased at Bean’s Bistro or by calling 519-396-4777.

This is a licensed event; there will be complimentary snacks, and a portion of the proceeds from the bar and ticket sales will be donated to Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Bean’s Bistro has limited seating, so reserve your tickets early.
