To the Editor.

Remember the Beach carnivals in Port Elgin and how much money they raised for local clubs and sports groups as well as being a terrific family night down on the beach?

...Well, someone managed to get rid of them by reporting them to OLG (Ontario Lottery & Games Commission). The new rules killed the event, [are you] happy neighbours - now that it is gone and local community groups suffer?

Same thing ........move the location you kill the event and the hospital suffers, and another fun family event is gone.

Perhaps address the problem .... volunteers to pick up any litter and the bylaw office/police make someone move if they infringe on private property ...

I feel that this town has really changed.  When I first came here 9 years ago and when you walked down the street everyone spoke to each other.  Now, when you walk down the street hardly anyone speaks.  That is what Southampton has turned into.  We have too many people who bought property here and think they can run the town the way they think it should be.  Too bad.

How many people would dedicate a day every week to organize a weekly money maker for our town to keep our hospital?   Shame on you selfish people.  I bet when you need the hospital you would use it though.  Our soldiers I'm sure wouldn't regret the place to have it.  Moving it up town more isn't going to help the stores any because they are all closed.

To me it looks like some people think they should be the only ones here.  This is a tourist town and it is just like the sign issue from last year.  People don't mind the businesses paying high property taxes to offset theirs, but they want businesses to take down their signs.  There are still signs up with businesses that have been closed for years.  Are the motels supposed to vacate too?  It's too bad that people have bought property near businesses and events.  Should of thought of that before.  Where does all the complaining stop?

No way it should be moved, we have been attending almost every Thurs. evening since it started.  Great place to meet friends and view the many vehicles.  Keep the good times rolling, also an excellent fundraiser for the hospital.

We seem to be missing the boat regarding the controversy over the site of Cruisers Night.  Most of the residential complaints constitute violations of some regulation or another (trespassing, littering).  Local residents should have a right to enjoy their property within the framework of local regulations, and Cruisers Night is certainly a benefit to our local municipality.

Relocation of the event is not the answer.  Enforcement of the laws and regulations should resolve the dilemma.  Relocation without enforcement would simply move the problem.

My two cents,
