On the first Tuesday of every month, Kingsway Arms of Elgin Lodge in Port Elgin hosts the support workers and caregivers to those with Alzheimer's.

In April, the gathering was special in that it was not only a dinner, it was also an opportunity for Kingsway Arms of Elgin Lodge to present a donation of $1,500 to the Alzheimer's Society of Grey-Bruce.

The staff of the lodge raised the funds through a variety of events with the bulk being raised at the Christmas Snowflake Dance held in November.

Alzheimer's Society councilor, Laura Ballette, explained that the support group helps educate caregivers and those families who may have a member who has been diagnosed in the initial stages of dementia.  "We have two memory clinics in the region," says Ballette, "one at the Southampton Hospital and the other at the Wiarton Hospital where specialized doctors are able to help.  According to Ballette, there are over 150 families with caregivers.
