The Kincardine Legion, Branch 183, is hoping a president will be elected at Sunday's meeting or the long-serving organization could be closed.

President Red Larsen says it's imperative that a new president be elected.

"If not, the Legion can't function and they'll close us down," he says. "And we have a low response of people willing to serve on the executive and executive positions."

Larsen says he thinks people are not standing to be president because of the lack of support from members. Another part of the problem, he says, is that most of the Legion members are over 60 years of age, and getting too old to take on the challenge. He says neighbouring branches are having a similar problem and it's going to affect the community.

"If the Legion closes, a lot of things won't be happening in the area," he says. "All the charitable funds we raise, support for minor sports ... There will be no bingo, no medical equipment loaned out, and no reasonable banquet hall."

Larsen says the president's duties are like a full-time job and if other people don't help out, then all the duties fall to the Legion president.
