Ken Battler (R) of B&W Appliances in downtown Kincardine, donates $300 to the Easter Weekend Food Drive for the Kincardine Food Bank. With him are Rob Mise (L) of myFM, and Nancy Dawson and Pat Stewart of the food bank

Thanks to the organizers, sponsors, volunteers and a hugely-generous community, the first Easter Weekend Food Drive has surpassed everyone's expectations, bringing in about $12,000 in food and cash donations for the Kincardine Food Bank.

The four-day event was held April 21-24, sponsored by myFM, Dennis Pierson Chevrolet, Trillium Court Seniors' Community, Sobeys, Meridian Credit Union, Nancy Ackert Financial, and the Kincardine Times.

Rob Mise, general manager of myFM, said about $10,000 worth of food was donated, plus $2,000 in cash.

In addition, Ken Battler of B&W Appliances in downtown Kincardine, came to the myFM studio Monday morning and donated $300 to the cause. He and his staff decided to make the donation instead of holding a Christmas party last year, and then present the money in the spring when the food bank is in need.

Thanks to Bruce Telecom, which is matching all cash donations, dollar-for-dollar, for the next three weeks, B&W's presentation now means $600 for the food bank.

Battler said his donation will go toward 12 - $25 Sobeys gift certificates to be given out at the food bank.

People can still drop off cash donations at the Bruce Telecom stores in Kincardine and Port Elgin and at the office in Tiverton. The total amount will be split between the Kincardine Food Bank and the Salvation Army in Port Elgin.
