The co-ordinators and volunteers at the Kincardine Food Bank were overwhelmed by the amount of non-perishable items brought in, thanks to the generosity of the community and the hard work by those involved in the Easter Weekend Food Drive. "This is absolutely fabulous," said Nancy Dawson, one of the co-ordinators of the Kincardine Food Bank. "We should be well-stocked for most of the year." She said having people purchase the pre-packaged "food bank" bags was great because they contain many of the items needed by the food bank, such as canned goods, cereal, peanut butter, rice, macaroni, and so on. Dawson was also pleased that there were about 20 volunteers helping unload and sort all the groceries donated on the weekend. The event was sponsored by myFM, Dennis Pierson Chevrolet, Trillium Court Seniors' Community, Sobeys, Meridian Credit Union, Nancy Ackert Financial, and the Kincardine Times. In the first two days of the food drive, four pick-up truck-loads of groceries, worth about $6,000, had been taken to the food bank, said myFM general manager Rob Mise. Plus $1,000 in cash had been donated. By the end of Saturday, another two trucks-loads had been donated. The food drive continues Sunday (April 24), with patrons asked to pick up a "food bank" bag of groceries at Sobeys, pay for it at the till, and place it in the container on their way out of the store. In addition to the food and cash already donated, Mise said that for the next three weeks, Bruce Telecom is matching dollar-for-dollar, all cash donations made to the food bank. You can drop off cash donations at the Kincardine and Port Elgin stores and at the office in Tiverton. The total amount will be split between the Kincardine Food Bank and the Salvation Army in Port Elgin.

![]() Brody Roppel (R), 2, of Kincardine, presents a bag of food to Dylan Bartlett of myFM, to put in the pick-up truck for the Easter Weekend Food Drive As Saturday wrapped up, and the final truck-load of food was unloaded, Pat Stewart, also a co-ordinator of the food bank, said this was the largest food drive ever. The food bank's cupboard is full, as well as two other rooms. "This is tremendous," she said. "There is a real need here. Last week, we had 26 families and singles using the food bank, and this week we had 15. Thank you to everyone who took part in this event."
